5/6ième année

It is important for Grade 5/6 students to spend time at home practicing French, reviewing daily work and increasing their vocabulary.  During September students should spend approximately 30 minutes per day studying French.  Please look over the study list with your child and help him/her to set studying goals.

Duolingo is a great website for learning French.


By the end of September all students should be able to:

  • recite and recognize numbers from 0 – 1000
  • understand basic math vocabulary (plus, moins, égal)
  • recite and recognize all letters of the alphabet (and accents)
  • conjugate the verb avoir (present tense)
  • conjugate the verb être (present tense)
  • name classroom vocabulary (un pupitre, une gomme)
  • greet others and respond appropriately to greetings
  • understand basic classroom commands
  • ask simple questions (Est-ce que je peux aller …?)
  • identify colours
  • recite days of the week and months of the year
  • respond to the question, “Quelle est la date aujourd’hui?”
  • respond to the question, “Quel temps fait-il?”
  • use a French / English dictionary quickly
  • sing some songs in French
